I have a '92 Escort GT - it still has the stock radio/tape player in it. The door speakers on the front have a tag that says, "premium sound."

I'm looking for the wiring diagram. I've read that it's not always the same, and that Ford is not always consistent even among models. So I have a picture of the wires, if anyone can help.

I've tried many configurations to no avail. I plugged directly to the battery and the unit works, so that is not the problem.

Here is the picture: http://www.allsyntax.com/images/car/92e ... wiring.jpg

thanks guys

Did you cut those wires? Because the first thing you're supposed to do is NOT cut the plugs off.

Just abandon the factory amp and speakers. It's easy to run new speaker wires to each corner on an Escort. Get a 12 volt tester to find out which wire has power all the time and which wire has power with the key on. That's all you need to know. Make your own ground and run your own speaker wires. Of course you have to buy 4 new speakers.

do your connections look like those in the first picture? then what I posted won't work. the connections I linked are what my 94 GT had, but the 92 may be different.

it may not be too late.

with the factory premium sound, the amplifier is mounted on top of the tunnel directly below the head unit.

it uses the same plugs as the stock head unit - there is essentially just a 12" long jumper between the head unit and the amp. just buy an adapter and connect it to the wires coming out of the amp... you should be good to go.
