1991 Ford Escort LX , 1.9L



I was in the process of taking out the bolts to the transmission pan and realized that theres this annoying bar thats in the way of the last 2 screws. IF i remove the bar, then I can have access to the 2 screws and take out the drain pan.

My question is, what is this bar, and can I just take it off? I took off several bolts of it already with a 13mm ratchet. it extends from the bottom of the radiator to behind the oil pan.

i don't remember the name of the bar but u can take it out but don't leave it out. it helps to hold the tranny and engine in place while the car is moving.

another question about said bar. It has two large bolts on the front of the car holding it in in the front. The lug nut i guess you would call it (im not good with terminology) that the bolt screws into is actually welded to the fram of the car. However on my car one of the lug nuts is not welded on anymore and one of the two bolts spins like a top. I dont know how to resolve this problem because their is no room to put anything down in the hole to hold the lug nut while i either tighten or loosen the bolt. Any suggestions? and does the bar really need both of them to be tightened or could i get away with driveing the car for a while?
