The port spacing is different so there is no easy way around it. Basically, you need to cut the flange off both intakes and weld the 2nd gen flange onto the HO intake. I have seen the pics but can't find them.

Matt is correct, the port and bolt spacing don't really line up. The bolts will kind of fit, but the design blocks off some of the port. Besides that, the stock intake on the 2nd gen should be plenty sufficient for the small port head used.

There is one alternative: use the CFI intake from a 1st gen, make some injector bungs, and then have what is essentially an unbalanced short runner intake, with a 40mm throttle body.

Interesting you say that, because I've test fitted a 1st gen CFI manifold from a 1st gen onto a 2nd gen head and the bolts, ports, and water jacket all line up.

    bigger intake for 1.9L

whats up.. i have done this swap and its pretty involved... i took a HO lower manifold and cut the flange that bolts to the head... i then took a SEFI intake and cut the flange off of that and i pieced it together so it will line up with the individual ports... alot of welding and porting and it netted a little gain... the SEFI head is the poopiest head in escort line up... the intake works way better with the HO head...

    bigger intake for 1.9L

yes i do but u have to think about the coolant passage that is right there under the TB..... i will have to find the picks... i still have the lower intake that i made... now that i am finishing up on my 2.0L HO build... i started with what ur thinking and if you get a good look at ur intake ports on ur head, u will see that the intake runners r not for flow due to restriction... the combustion chambers r the smallest that i have seen in an escort.... if i find them, i will post them for u...
