" 1989 -GT Rear Hatch latch broke "

Hello Again All ,
Well if it isn't one thing its another ,, lol,,
Just last night ,I went to shut the rear hatch door on my 1989 Escort GT and found that it wasn't latching ,, the spring is broke on it , I played around with it for like two hours and just gave up trying to fixs it ,
so going to junk yard tomorrow morning and hunt one down , Might have to go to ( Mobile ,Alabama ) , about 60 miles from me ,( Biloxi ,Miss ) , they are the only ones I know that have a ( 1'st gen ) Escort in the yard , a ( 1986 Gold 4 door ) ,with ( all tan inside ) ...
I hope the ( 86 ) - 4 door rear hatch latch is the same as the ( 89 ) - 2 door rear hatch latch , and its a good one , I don't need the key lock ,, just the hatch latch that keeps it shut . Also my rear hatch latch has the release motor on it ,( which has been dead for years now ) , so finding a good motor will be nice too ,if I get lucky .

I'll save you the trip. The 86 latch is mounted on the hatch itself. So it's not going to work for your 89. I do however, have a latch with the release actuator. Plus I'm getting a 90 lx coupe parts car and have access to a sedan for parts. Not sure if either is with the release actuator

Mine is malfunctioning too, but I solve it by manually pressing the right side 'tooth' of the hinge in by hand before closing it.
I'd appreciate reading updates on your repair for when mine finally fails completely.
