Yea a 50 shot is about the highest you would want to go. That is if you want the motor to last for any amount of time. Any more than that start thinking about forged interals. And a bigger fuel pump wouldnt hurt too.

The question should'nt be "how big of a shot can the motor take?".

It should be "how big of a shot can my engine management take?".

I've seen mostly stock CVH's make 300hp, and I've also seen CVH's melt down with only 4psi. It's all in the engine management-Fuel and timing.

Is it a First Gen or Second Gen 1.9? If you have a First Gen then you can easily get a bigger fuel pump from a Fox Mustang. I forget which one I got when I upgraded but I know it was a Mustang high flow pump. Also for more power, start with the obvious first, head and manifold porting, bigger valves, bigger pistons, etc. It can all be done, you just might have to be a little more resourceful about things.

sorta unrealted.. but how can you tell if you have a first or second generation 1.9? I baught my LX used from a garage.. aparently the original owner used to work for ford (I have no clue if this is true or not LOL - seemed in good condition till his 1 month warenty expired and had to change the transmission lol a year later and the front brakes are gone and one boot or joint or something (can't remember) was toasted. Now it's making a squeek on the left side (same side that the boot/joint was replaced) my new mechanic says it might be the brakes sticking or sliding or something like that. And probably my most disconcerning thing right now is the low ideling.. like below 500 rpm, then sudenly jumping to 1500 rpm then back down to around 500rpm and it will bounce for awhile then settle at about 1200rpm for about a minute or two, then it starts the whole sequence again. My father things thats the IAC valve because it's similar symptoms as what his was on his gm truck.

I realy do like the escort overall.. just hoping I dont have to change the engine to soon.. and if I do.. kinda wanna know what information I'm going to need.
