My car 95 Escort LX 1.9L

K..Was driving yesterday and all of a sudden the car stareted to run like garbage...It ran like a spark plug wire came off or something like that. So I get home right away and check..and they all seem to be fine. The motor shakes and revs like garbage and has no power at all now. There is also a loud ticking sound coming from around the fuel rail/intake manifold

All cylinders are getting spark. But when I pull the plugs they are all white(lean) so i'm not gettin the proper amount of fuel. #4 cylinder spark plug has oil on it. Valve seals or piston rings????

So Should I fix the 1.9L or just get a new one from a wreckers. If I get one from the wreckers I will swap the SPI for sure

But right now I wanna get mine running better in the meantime since this is my only car and don't ahev toomuch cash to swap an engine right now.

Do a compresstion check. And check the timing belt timing, it may of slipped a tooth or 2.

I would'nt worry too much about the white plug's, my stock 92 1.9 has white plug's, and it run's great and has since the day i got it. ( I did spot a small vac leak a few weeks ago, but still ran fine with the leak)

You'll need a 19mm socket, take off the crank pully, than take off the timing belt cover. Put the 19mm bolt back in the crank and turn the motor clock wise untill the tab lines up with the notch. When those are lined up, the cam gear arrow should point to the dot on the head. (you may need to make 2 turns for every thing to line up.

Ok....I will check that soon..But if #4Cylinder has oil on the plug..Doesn't that mean valve seals or piston rings?

Yeah it could. It could also just be unburnt fuel that looks like oil because of the gas washing the carbon off of the cylender. Try to find a compresstion checker, if that cylender is too low and the timing belt is on time, then it would be more cost effective to replce that 1.9 with a fresh 2.0 then it would be to rebuild the 1.9er.

ok...I pulled the plug again..it smells like oil and not gas SAo i guess the rinsg are gone in that cylinder...I can get an SPI with 170Kilometers for $450 Canadian, and then get a shop to put it in and I will wire up the RPM switch, and do what Jeff has on his How To.
