Ok guys, I don't know much about the 1.9... and apparently neither do a lot of people.

Those of you who do know. TELL US ALL, right here, in this thread... what swaps? Even more importantly, what DOESN'T swap?

1G 1.9 H.O. --> 2G LX/Pony
3G 2.0 SPI --> 2G LX/Pony
ZX2 2.0 DOHC --> 2G LX/Pony

Now you may be thinking swapping motors, but no I'm talking about pieces, engine parts to swap onto the existing 2G 1.9. What swaps, header, head, intake TB, etc...?? I want to have some sort of FAQ going on in here so we can all share in the knowledge.

3G 2.0 SPI --> 2G LX/Pony:
-Spark plug wires
-Valve cover
-Throtle body
-Most fluid containers
-Oil pan
-Short block w/1.9 head(this has been done twice to my knowledge
-Cam shafts
-Rocker arms
-5-Speed and auto trannys
-Thermostats

More to come...

as for the cam, whats the advantage of using the spi cam over stock
and to use it effectively what else do i need to do?
Assuming that by stock you mean a 1.9 cam:
There is no advantage. They are the same.

If there was an advantage to swaping cams it would be to swap an early '91 cam into a late '91-'02 head, they supposedly have longer lift duration. <--- No one has been able to prove this though, I've got a early '91 cam and a '97 cam and have found no differences in them that I can tell. Drivinonthinice and I used a dial caliper on the two of them and couldn't see any verifiable difference in them. I just think that we didn't have the right tools and the tools that we used don't measure in small enough incriments.

Nothing ZX2 wise will bolt to the motor unless you are pulling a rather involved swap.

1st Gen GT header is a good piece to steal and put on the 2nd Gen 1.9. Also the turbo mani from the 84-85 EXP and GT will fit quite nicely.

2G GT and LX use the same automatic tranny. But with the 5 speed tranny, there not the same... But I just realize what you mean!
If you can do a swap on a 2G GT from auto to 5speed tranny and those are bolt-on.
If you can take the auto tranny from a 2G GT and bolt in on the LX.
Why you cannot take the same 5speed tranny from a GT and bolt in on a 1.9 ?!

**These all have verified by myself, but none the less individual investigation into parts should be made before attempting to use them, and remember use the [email protected] search tool when questioning how to do/use these swaps/parts**

1.9L HO Header -----> All 1.9L and 2.0L SPI engines

1.9L HO Throttle Body (Same as the 3.8L TB) ----> All 1.9L & 2.0L SPI engines

2.0L SPI throttle Body ------> all 1.9L engines minus 1.9L HO, the SPI is larger than the 2nd gen Escort/Tracers throttl body but is smaller than the 1.9L HO TB. I could be wrong but I believe the SPI TB is around 48mm, where aways the 1.9L HO TB is 52mm (or something like that)

all 2.0L SPI (both Escort & Focus) internal parts should be able to be used with the 1.9L in the 2nd gens

1.6L turbo manifold-------------> all 1.9L & 2.0L SPI engines

Zx2 suspension parts-----------> all 2nd gen and 3rd gen Escorts

2nd gen rear disc brakes-------> all 2nd gen and 3rd gen Escorts

2.0L SPI head ---------> 2nd Gen 1.9L engine (must create custom wiring harness for SPI control)

2nd Gen Escort GT rear sway bar (21mm)-----------> all 2nd and 3rd gen Escorts

2nd Gen Wagons rear sway bar (19mm) -----------> all 2nd and 3rd gen Escorts

Because the 5 sp in the GT is built by mazda and the 5 sp in the LX is built by Ford.

If you're swapping a GT motor into an LX, you'd need the entire GT front clip for the swap to work.

It's just like certain hondas, some things will swap, some won't. For instance if you are building a B series motor, you can't use any D series motor parts.

All of the 91+ 5 speed tranny's are made by mazda, just the LX tranny's are made to fit the Ford bell housing bolt pattern.

if you want to go turbo, it'll will lower your effective compression ratio, plus it has optimal sized valves for anything you could ever do to a CVH.

if you arent going turbo or supercharged, forget about it without getting VERY custom made pistons.

Smoke i dont think that might work using the focus parts.What you should do is go to your ford dealer and have the look up those parts that are in the focus gude package against the escort spi engine parts.Basically a cross reference or if you have a mitchells guide that would help also since they carry what parts are interchangeable.
