Been searching through all 24 pages of EGR related stuff, made an account just to ask! My 1.9L has the EGR hose coming up to the intake, meaning the ECU will be looking for the EGR Sensor, How would I go about deleting this entirely/blocking it off. The hose was already damaged and had a pretty bad cut in it, Cant get the threads off from the intake nor the exhaust so it's kinda just hanging there. I can fab a plate for it and what not. Car doesn't run at the moment, bad head gasket and water pump so just trying to get it apart and the EGR stuff won't come loose whatsoever. Not worried about emissions because this will be a car for a budget rally group and Alaska only did inspections for 3 years and realized it didn't make sense financially for the state. (sorry for the rambling, its late and I haven't been on a forum since i was 7)

just like any other car, block the stuff off and unplug stuff. Keep in mind timing advice will be affected if you don't tune to ECU.

EDIT: I never once seen a HO motor were the EGR tubes would come off without a good amount of heat and even with heat they don't like to come off.

A thread back in 06 or so mentioned you can block off one of the vacuum lines and it won’t throw a fit. Also tuning a 1987 ECU?

Tuning the ecu can be done but you will be hard pressed to find anyone that can. Its not a big deal and the car would still be more then drivable. It’s only like 2-3deg difference, offsetting base timing can help over come it a little.

Am I timing the actual belt or? Honestly this is my first car I'm fully rebuilding and getting the engine running well is highest on the list. as far as I understand the distributor is either on or off as its 180* key?

Not cam timing, its ignition timing witch can be adjusted by turning the distributor. You loosen one screw holding the dizzy one and turn it, then tighten the screw back on. If your not good at setting base timming by ear or don't have a timming gun I would just leave it alone. The difference is rather small and you will just lose a MPG or two and a very small amount of power on the top end, so small you might not even realize a difference.

Ive got a timing gun, engine is currently in half so i’d have to do it anyways.
