Went to my local J/Y today and picked this up for myself off of a Mazda Protege LX. Not sure if this is the one of the 95' EGT's or custom. Havent seen the 95' in person. But this one looks good. Got for about 40 bucks. :)

Looks like a factory header to me. Good find.

NICE! I wish a header for the CVH was such a cheap and easy investment. :thumleft:

Im not positive. But i will apologize. Wasnt an lx. Sorry. FOUR DOOR! had my Escort LX in my mind.

But i was surprised when i popped the hood. :)

Unfortunately almost everything else good on the car has already been robbed. there is two 1st Gen Proteges sitting next to each other out there ones with the 1.8 and im assuming the other has the 1.6. The Engine looks diferent..looks smaller. but idk.

    :)

P.s. i'm not sure what year it actually it is. But its first gen. And unfortunately the pass. mirror is missing and the drivers is broken. :(

Late 95 and 96 have them. I am going to be running the Protege one. Just know that the downpipe and O2 location is different.

The one on the '95 seems to be in about the same location as my '91, unless I'm missing something obvious. What is the benefit to using this manifold besides the obvious weight reduction?

The bung for the O2 is in the downpipe. Here's what mine looks like with the tabs removed and all cleaned up...

I didn't check weight, but being a OEM tubular style header over the cast iron, it is bound to be better.
Can't wait to drop this in...

Thanks, running a "cut" BH valve cover from a 2nd gen Protege. Wanted the gears exposed, but belt better protected.

    Hi guys,

i hope it's ok if i hijack this thread with an inquiry:
I'm from germany and we did not get this tubular header design over here - i'm therefore trying to source one overseas and was wondering if you could help me with getting one. They seem to be rather common for you guys, so i'd appreciate it if you could help me out and maybe remember me on yout next junk yard tour!
Would be really a big help!
    Thanks,
    Chris

I'll keep an eye out, but I had to buy this one from a buddy across the country.

Got this one off eBay, had to bend a bit down from oil pan and extend the O2 sensor wiring but other than that, wonderful

Must be OBX. Worst header I ever played with.

Yes OBX, I was unhappy about the bending and having to extend the O2 sensor wiring but once it was all done and I completed my exhaust I was satisfied, but I don't think id get OBX again just because that hassle.

That is a great looking engine you got, where did you find the intake manifold with "Mazda gt" stamp?
Also I just removed my timing cover because I hate it and want the cam gears to be open, but want the belt protection you mentione. So do all the 2nd Gen protege's have that extended lip to cover the gears? If so that's my next installment

I'm new to all this but what exactly does this pipe help with on a stock engine. I have a 1.9 but wouldn't mind doing little mods like this just want to know how it helps in any way.
