Would rods pistons, cranks and so one form the UK fit a US 1.6l? If not could a UK 1.6l fit a US escort with minor mods? I was thinking of building a really nice high end 1.6l once my EXP is done with parts form the UK.

The UK and US 1.6L engines are identical. Everything swaps between them. Their 1.8L is similar to the 1.9L, but some parts are different, though there is basically no following of it since people prefer the 1.6, or will convert to a ZVH (CVH with a Zetec 16 valve head).

The crank and cam pulley are not the same round teeth vs square. The water pumps a little different too. Motor mounts are not the same from what I seen. I'm sure there is more witch is why I asked.

The only difference between the Euro 1.6 and North American 1.6 is:
Oil pump (UK ones changed inside and out every couple years) but they are supposedly interchangeable
Waterpump which is round-tooth (but is interchangeable, the issue with it is it the inlet tube is routed differently which may not clear the North American accessories that are mounted on that side of the motor)

Then you just have to watch for piston crown shape because they used every combustion chamber under the sun on every engine model that also changed every few years over there.

The motor mounts are different but you can interchange them as long as the mount matches your car of course, so you can use a Euro block in your car with your mount, it bolts up fine. The 1.9s are like this too, though some time after 91 the 1.9 & 2.0 had big changes to the block's back side like the motor mount area and the added huge crankcase vent.
