So I wanna raise my 91 gt about 1 or 1 1/2 inchs taller for going up to the mountian. What can I do?. I don't have a lot of money and im thinking maybe some 1st gen focus springs might be able to do the trick. Let me know what you think

Why would you need to lift it? are you going offroad? 1-2 inches wont get you over anything. You would need to be lifted 6-10 inches just to start going over the obstacles stock pickups and jeeps can. Even then, the stock trans and differential wouldnt be able to handle it, nor would the axles handle those angles.

If you want to drive mountain roads or anything, lower it and put in an ATB differential or an LSD.

Nothing from the Focus suspension will fit on an Escort.

well i just wanna raise it that little bit for the stance. and if focus springs wont work anyone know what would?

The lifting an Escort question has been asked several times before and there is really no solution. The springs on the Mazda MX3 are stiffer and that may give you a slight lift but I'm not sure. Piercemotorsports built an Escort for rally racing with a lift but the suspension was custom and would be over $1000 to have built.

What kind of stuff are you going to be driving over anyway to need a lift? I ran my wagon with stock suspension on logging roads year round and never bottomed out or got stuck. Once a rock pushed in one of the body plugs but that was it and had I paid more attention I would not have hit it.

If you still feel like you need more ground clearance then get a truck.

^^yes and this is where my escort saw most of its early life in washington state when I was in highschool. Any and every dirt road since I did not have a truck. It will be fine, just watch where your going. I was even able to carfully navigate over water bars* that were placed on some of these roads. The car would scrape a little but it was fine.

*water bars are those little humps placed across dirt roads to keep water from washing a road out, they usually place them on hills. like extra tall speed bumps.

Well I don't know what ill be driving over its under snow. And im going to be driving on a dirt track in myb parents back yard. And I just want that little bit of clearance. Its not like the body of the car is in good shape so I don't care what happens to it. I just wanna go out and have fun.

There are ways to lift it a bit, 1" would be easy, more starts becoming more complicated. I've also got a rally Escort GT that I run in the SW, very rough roads, lots of rocks and water bars. If you're just looking for cheap, take the struts apart and install some kind of universal urethane spring spacer. If you want to spend more money, convert the springs to coil-overs, use springs longer then come with most cheap ebay kits and jack it up where you want it. (250-275lbs in front, 125 - 150lbs in back)

call up ground control and tell them what you want to do. they will tell you teh spring rate you need and teh spring hiegth you need. then install some cheap coil-over kit with teh custom ordered eibach springs ground control will be suppling you. you can also get teh specs from ground control then call h&r and may be about to get teh springs cheaper.
