 I had the tranny rebuilt 6 months ago by the dealer at 35,600 miles. Now I'm running into the same problem again 39,500 miles. The tranny when cold shifts hard, when it gets warm, it shits fine between 1 and 2, but between 2 and 3, the engine revs a little 3-400 rpm, then finally shifts. Then dealer said nothing is wrong with it, although they stuck it on the computer and didn't see any codes, they also said they reprogramed the tranny computer. It shifts fine all other gears for the most part. when it's also warm, sometimes it doesn't down shift right, cause when you press the gas, it seems like it's trying to find the right gear, fishing for it. Usually goes into 2-3 gears before it settles in. It's a auto. Any best guesses with what's going on? I'm thinking the torque converter is going out again. When they rebuilt it, they installed a remanufactured one. thanks. :?

It does sound like your torque converter is going. Why dont you buy some lucas tranny slip and do a fluid change.Did you also check for leaks? Also check your fluid.

Just got mytranny rebuilt about 3000 km's ago also. I have the EXACT SAME PROBLEMS. Turns out these problems arent REALLY problems.

Turns out our transmissions are one of the worst ever made, as I have been told by over 3 shops in my city. Were BOTH going to have to live with it, or do a 5 speed swap.......

id say the worst ever made would be the Chrysler A-604...
Had a Dodge Shadow 3.0V6 Auto, 1st tranny went @ 105k, 2nd @ 108k 3rd @ 122k, 4th @ 140k and 5th was still in the car when the motor blew @ 151k, had the motor replaced, 2 days later car gets stolen, so the owner of the garage gave me the white cadillac i have for compensation... i guess bad trannys pay off ... sumtimes

At least yours lasted 100K+. Mine only has 38,000 on it, on it's way to a sencond rebuild as it is getting worse the colder it gets. I can't wait for it to get to -20 again for a couple weeks. That will rip it apart like last year. I live on the plains of North Dakota.

wow that sucks man. My 95 LX 2 gen is at 151K and is on the first transmission still. I guess they did a horrible job on the 3 gen escort trannys.

i dunno guys, if it was really such a bad tranny, there would have been a slew of warrenty claims on transmissions and possibly even a recall on them.

I talked with the local Ford dealer, and they said there has been a considerable amount of tranny work in these years. But just like our Taurus, most recalls don't come out, unless safety related, until 3-4 yaers down the road, After the factory warranty has expired.
