I found an Escort GT locally for $500. The owner tried to replace the head gasket, but when he did water was getting into the exhaust. I would guess the cylinder head is cracked.

What sucks, is it´s not reg. in California yet and it needs to be smogged. So I would have to fix it first, then get it reg and smogged before I even try a GTX/BPT swap.

So I´m thinking about just replacing the head and driving it around for awhile and not worry about it, but I kinda wanted to have a small project to work with and one that wouldn´t require more than a weekend of downtime.

Any ideas or suggestions?

This really getting on my nerves!

I kinda scraped the "hot" CVH idea because for that $1,500 I´m finding I can swap a turbo 4G63T down into a Hyundai Elantra, Scoupe, Excel or Mirage/Colt with nothing more than the related drivetrain parts from a DSM.

I can also do a B6T swap into a Mazda 323 or early Mercury Tracer Hatchback with nothing more than the front clip from a Capri XR2.

All those swaps are California smog legal, the Escort is not with a JDM engine. If I can get around that somehow, I would do it. I dunno...

No american cars have a JDM engine in it. Just think about what JDM means and you´ll realize why.
But as far as buying that EGT, it´s really only up to you. You could buy it and fix it to drive for now, but if you´re gonna do the swap why bother fixing this engine? You can do one of two things: 1.) buy it and park it until you can get a GTX engine. 2.) Buy it, pull the engine and rebuild it.

Do all cars in California have to be smog tested to have the title registered? :-? That would suck. I could buy a car, rebuild it and Indiana could care less.

yeah!

sometiomes there is a way to get overseas motors to work, has to be ther same motor, but all your smog equip has to bolt on, and has to be same year or newer than your car!
one of the mags did an hybrid article and got it legal for cali!

i would judt ge the gtx, just dont put the turbo stuff on! just bole the na parts onto it then when you get home swap it to turbo. that way you have no money put into the old motor, the emision from the block to block should be close to the same! unless thecams or piston are way diffretn! then you can do the wire harness and turbo parts after smog!

where in cali are u at! oc here!

Sounds like alot of work, wanna help?

If you wanna help I got a GT with a cracked head that doesn't go into the paper until Thurs. While I haven't really looked for a BPT down here, I'm sure I can find out for about the same as Corksport is charging.

What kinda wiring is involved with the J-spec ECU? I heard the injector harness is different.
