Hello, as some of you all know I have a 01 Escort SE, recently bought, that had some issues; it struggled leaving 1st gear. Well, I didn't do much to fix it. I removed the Air Filter Resonator(Keman Intake Style), Changed the Spark Plugs(Autolite Platinums), And 2 quarts of Dex/Merc V. Well I got 1st Gear back and don't have to use Low anymore. Well here is the catch the Transmission heats up fast, like within 20-45 mins of driving you can feel the heat in the car by your feet. When this happens there is a Few things I noticed. The transmission starts leaking, not through the filter but some where on the top where I can't see(drip location is on the trans housing) . While driving there is an acceleration rattle(??easiest way to explain it is like the car is not realizing its supposed to be accelerating) that happens on reacceleration for a split second. There is now a rough engine/transmission shake while close to standing idle (braking or accel near standing idle seems shake the whole engine bay enough to loosen the battery posts.). Lastly while all the other things are happening it starts acting like it cant find 1st again, sometimes 2nd too(but not as bad as my first two noob posts had explained). So I refill the transmission every 2 weeks with about 2 qts of fluid and that same day is will bleed about a qt and a half of old fluid from where ever its been leaking from. The engine itself when this happens it so hot you can see the heat coming from the bottom and top of the car. I don't have the tools and such to self fix the car so I'm saving to take it to a mechanic. Having a general idea, may prove beneficial as to repair it myself. This transmission is a jy transmission and was already in the car when I bought it @ 153k miles. Also I'm looking at a jy tranny with 105k for about $150($500 total for labor with warranty). Outside of all this the car runs decently and reliable in short distances or when it's not 100 degrees in Texas and really only leaks during those times. Oh yeah, so now the E-brake Light stays on even when disengaged this also recently just started.
