    1989 Escort Pony 2-door w/hatchback, 1.9L CFI engine, 4 speed manual MTX-II. Given to me by a brother-in-law in December 2013. He told me that it has about 500,000 miles on it, on the original engine, but he replaced the cylinder head with a reman in Dec 2010, so Ford declined his offer to cite it as an example of a long-lasting Ford, saying it had to have an all-original engine for that.

    This is the second car I've done substantial work on--the first was my 1994 Taurus, whose engine I'm rebuilding after it spun a couple rod bearings.

    Modification I've made:

    • Replaced the cracked all-plastic bumpers that Ford started installing in the last gen 1 models, with a 1988 GT's metal bumper reinforcers and rubber bumper covers, so I've got some decent protection from front or rear collisions, and so I don't have to deal with cracked plastic bumpers any more.

    • Replaced the standard instrument cluster with a sport cluster from a 1989 GT, so I can finally have a temperature gauge I can watch as the engine temperature rises, so I can pull over if it starts to overheat. I wasn't so lucky before, when I had the stock cluster installed. The tach is useful too.
