My daily commute (1 mile LOL) is hell on fuel economy. Of course I can drive forever on a tank if I just go to work and back, but I do end up doing some other running around. This tank had a nice drive up to a further junkyard (70 miles each way) so that's why it's getting better fuel economy. I would like to take it on a long trip and see how good it can do.

Put 25k miles on some copper auto lite plugs..lol
Finally got a misfire . Changed all the plugs, all is well again.
    I've got 175,710

I've put 25k on this little thing since I rebuilt the motor. So much win from this little thing gas mileage wise.

Seafoamed my 99 for the first time today. It's already consistently getting 40mpg or more on the highway, but I wanted something to clean the cats and soot out. Not a whole lot of smoke came out, either. I'll do some more highway driving and see if the mpg was affected. It is running a little bit smoother from what I can tell, not that it was having any issues before.

image.jpeg It was a nice evening tonight, so I just installed some ventshades that have been sitting in my parts stash for God knows how long.

The wagon's speedo crapped out on the way home about 8 miles before my exit again. When I got off the ramp I had to come to a complete stop to make a left. Then it started working again.

I'm thinking the speed sensor as the last time this happened I changed the neg batt terminal and it worked again.

I REALLY don't want to deal with the potential horror of R&R-ing the speed sensor after reading what others have gone through.

Is there anything else that might cause the speedo to crap out, try to work a few times, then fix itself once coming to a complete stop?

Use a code reader that also displays data. If the vehicle speed in the data list is correct when the speedometer isn't working, then it's the speedometer. Also, a bad VSS or a bad ground will throw a code like P0500.

The speedometer is an easy swap out in the instrument cluster, literally plug & play.

Thank you rbailin as always... My code reader is the cheapy kind, (no data unfortunately) I'll check for pending codes tonight. No CEL was activated. The shift arrow did light up a few times even though I was in 5th gear.

I haven't driven it since this happened, as I don't want the mileage to be incorrect if it should happen again. It's 11 miles off as of now since this has happened twice. I've been driving the Escape I inherited to work instead.

So last Friday I was coming home from work and only had high beam lights. Earlier this week I had to hold the lever to have headlights but no cluster lights. Grabbed a jy switch and installed it last night and now have full functioning lights

I know its not mine but last week me and my brother changed the radiator, hoses, thermostat, and coolant on his ZX2. We still have to change out the parking brake cables but that's another day.

Yesterday I soaked the VSS in a PB/WD combo for 24 hours. Then today I removed the battery, tray, and intake to make room and then attempted to change the VSS for three hours... ranging from gentle pries with a tiny screwdriver, to bashing on it with a pry bar and a BFH. Then tried small vise grips from the top and the bottom, then big ones. It wouldn't budge.

Then... I gave up and put it all back together, feeling beaten and like I lost a battle.

    Very depressed.

    :(

Yeah, I wish I felt like I did a few posts ago when I put the ventshades on it.

Feeling depressed at this point to be honest.

I have extracted 8 of them. It always took lots longer than 20 minutes, - even when the trans was sitting on my workbench.
