I recently discovered the free Torque android app and the $10 wireless bluetooth odb2 device from fleabay. Works nice.

But I'd like to stick the phone on the dash to watch mpg and even my speed since I have the 96 bouncy speedometer above 45mph

Other than slapping some velcro on the back and the dash, is there a better cheap way?

added: do those anti-slip pads actually work? I see some demos with devices at over 90 degrees http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=Dashboard+Slip+pad

i dont think you will find antyhing particularly cheap, there are mounts out there, check out Rammounts.com they have mounts for just about everything, but they are a little pricey. best thing to do is just keep an eye out at the stores what will work for your application.

I ordered one of the magic sticky pads for $2 to see what they are like and if they stick to the escort dash or not.

My phone is in a plastic case so that should help the stickiness, hopefully with zero residue as I peel it off repeatedly.

Wal-mart has a mount that snaps into your air vent for fairly cheap, and it works pretty good.

It gets super hot here, need those air vents 100% open and clear :)

I am going to try to find a suction one with good reviews on amazon.

Your phone might have a window mount made for it. Check ebay.

I have one of these and it has worked greatly for delivering and the Dyno apps I have. You might want to look for one more specific to your phone, but that one expands pretty widely, so it should be a pretty universal fit.

Cracked windshield (very common apparently on 2nd gen as my wagon also had it) so I don't want to put any more stress on it.

Going to wait for a sale on one of the more highly rated (and more expensive) suction cup holders and attach it next to the blank space next to the vent/rear defrost button.

True, mine's got a crack all the way across from attempting to remove the mirror, lol. But that one also comes with a base that has a sticky side, and a smooth side so that you can stick it anywhere, and then use the suction cup to hold it down.

Never attach a solar panel to a battery without a charge controller. It's the best way to force yourself to buy a new battery. The cheapest and safest way to do it is with a $20 harbor freight controller like this one:

I found a wireless charging cradle that suction cups to either the dash or the windshield. I mounted it just above the A/C drivers side vent to keep my front vision as unobstructed as possible. I plan on installing a USB power port on the plastic panel that goes around the steering column so that I can run a shorty fast charge cable. For some reason USB charge cables tend to stop working after a while once they get in my hands so I need to be able to change out the cable quickly instead of having to pull the dash apart to get to the offending cable.
