I have a weird problem,My zx2 will not start back up after it has just been running,It has to sit a while before it will start.

Could I have a bad fuel pressure regulator or a leaky injector?

when it "won't start" does it crank?

also, when it "won't start" can you press the accelerator to the floor and make it start that way? (don't hold it to the floor if it does start!!!)

do you hear the fuel pump when you turn the key to ON but not try to start it?

do that a couple times before trying to crank it.

also, have someone check for spark when it doesn't start. be safe, there are approx 10k volts coming off the coil!

I barely hear the the pump but i dont remember how loud it is suppose to be.

I tried to cycle the key but it still didnt start.

What is the proper way to check for a spark?

the easy way is to shove a screwdriver into the spark plug boot, and hold it near ground - while keeping your hand off the metal part of the screwdriver so you don't become the spark plug.

they make a spark tester, but it's not really designed for how our spark plugs are recessed into the engine.

Well,Its getting spark,it has fuel pressure but still no start.

If I try to start at WOT it kinda just putts then die out. For giggles I replaced the crank sensor, still no go. I doubt the timing belt skiped because it looks good and still has tension, plus its less than a year old.

Im beginning to think the PCM is bad or the CCRM,thought?

EDIT: All the injector harnesses show 12v with the key on. From what ive read the PCM sends the ground signal to the injectors when they need to pulse/fire.

Im really leaning to shorted out PCM

Anybody have a guess why the injector harnesses are getting a power and a ground signal with the key on?

So the injectors are getting both power and ground when ever the key is on? If so then it sounds like a bad ECU.

    Yep,I figured it wasn't normal.

I'm gonna try to find another ecu at the yard tomorrow, is there any code I gotta try to match with my car similar to the letter on aCCRM? Or are they pretty much all the same?

There was a half year in 99 so you will need to figure out if you have a 99 or 99.5. Easiest way to tell is to look at how many MAF wires you have. If there are four going into the airbox then you have a 99, if there are six then its a 99.5. If its a 99 then you need a 98-99 ECU, if its a 99.5 then you need a 99.5-03 ECU. Make sure that the car you get it from has the same type of trans that your car does, 5 speed or automatic.

Mine has 4 wires and a build date in 98.

Thanks for the help, hopefully it solves the problem.

Well the new pcm didn't fix it and I checked my sister s focus which runs fine and it also showed power and ground at the injectors with the key on. Maybe it's suppose to be like that.?

The only other thing I can think of is that it jumped time. I took the cover off and the belt looks fine and it seemed tight. Can the timing gears for the cams or crank slip in any way?

It's been about six months since I replaced the timing belt and I don't remember if the gears are keyed our pressed in.

Just a update, the problem ended up being bad spark plugs.
