Getting ready to start up the Escort after a winter in the garage. Here is hoping it starts easy!

Got new bushings for the Escort! Now I just need to figure out how to get the old ones out (Front lower Front Control arm bushing is a pain)

Good to hear! I got lucky and didn't have the valve seat drop on mine. (Though it was cracked and ready to go!) It was just having a miss at startup and I decided to pull the head since I couldn't figure it out.

I look forward to hearing yours is on the road again. (Maybe I will see it next time I drive through southern Indiana!)

Oh, and If you need any advice, just let me know. I had mine torn all the way down (except the pistons and rods). Plus I have the Ford Dealership Service Manual, so I can send you info from that if you need it. Though it sounds from your post that you know what you are doing!

Thanks. I don't think I will have much trouble. Labeling and remembering to put things back will help in the repair. As for manuals, I do have the FSM, but will ask any questions if I need to.

I have engine parts all over my workbench... On the plus side it should run like a new car when I am done!

Your selling it? Thats a shame. I wish I had the money for it, but I really can't be buying a car right now. Thanks for letting me know though!

Worst case scenario would be taking the head off to the machine shop and having a valve job done. If just had machine work done on the head and bought a gasket set. You could get the job done yourself for $500ish. Depending on the milage though I would do more. I put new rod bearings in and new rings. Also had to replace he pistons because 3 were massacred by the dropped valve seats.

Don't be jelly. You have to keep my twin alive! I hope its just a loose rocker arm or something simple. I'm so close to finishing mine don't give up on yours yet.

Oh don't worry, your twin will live! My daily driver truck broke down and I would get rid of it in a heartbeat for a ZX2. My LX Sport I plan on keeping for many decades to come. Even if it needs and Engine, the car is not going away!

Room mate just bought a ZX2 for $280. Just needs a timing belt. He doesn't even like Escorts! I am so jealous!

Suspisions partially confirmed. Low compression in cylinder #3. Now to figure out exactly why it is low...

Assuming the worst aintcha ? If there ain't any strange noises, perhaps ist's just a loose/damaged spark plug wire.

Well, I have been at it for a while. It has new plugs, wires, & coil pack. Problems still there. A vacuum test shows rapid vibration in the vacuum level, which may point to a bad valve.

The Escort is missing really bad when I start it. Tentative diagnosis: Damaged valve

After all hammering and body work, my bumper, fender, and air cleaner all bolt onto my car again!!! This is a good day indeed!

Started the restoration today! First step: body work from the firewall forward.

Just replaced my headlights with new ones. They make my car look worse by comparison! Just got to get the welding done and then paint it!
